Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures
What is its purpose & how does it help business?
The Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) is:
-
developing a risk management and disclosure framework for organisations to report and act on evolving nature-related risks and opportunities
-
seeking to provide recommendations and guidance on nature-related risks and opportunities relevant to a wide range of market participants
-
aiming to support a shift in global financial flows away from nature-negative outcomes and toward nature-positive outcomes.
The framework will support businesses to integrate nature and inform better corporate strategy, governance and risk management decision-making.
How is Little Blue Research involved?
Little Blue Research is:
-
part of the TNFD Forum and provided input into the development of the framework
-
leading the collation of comments on the draft framework for the BSI Valuing Natural Capital Committee
-
part of the UK Business and Biodiversity Forum working group on the TNFD
-
helping a number of clients pilot test elements of the draft TNFD framework.
Case studies
Little Blue Research is supporting several clients with piloting the initial stages of the TNFD framework. The piloting is being undertaken to assess an organisation’s readiness for the implementation of the framework and to identify priority nature-related risks, associated disclosure needs and where additional assessment or metrics maybe needed to fully implement the framework.

How does TNFD link to the Taskforce for Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD)?
-
Both initiatives seek to use the power of risk management, and the disclosure of financial & non-financial information from companies to investors & lenders to shift capital flows to more sustainable outcomes
-
The draft TNFD Framework is based on the same four areas of focus: governance, strategy, risk management and metrics & targets, as the TCFD
How has the TNFD been developed?
-
The TNFD is an international cross-sector initiative. It is a market-led initiative, funded by government and philanthropic partners and backed by G7 and G20 political leaders
-
The taskforce consists of 34 individual members and is supported by the TNFD Forum, a consultative grouping of over 500 institutional supporters, and both are managed and coordinated by the TNFD Secretariat
-
The first draft version of the framework was launched in March 2022 and the final framework is expected to be launched in September 2023.
